Multiple homes in east Phoenix suffered significant fire damage on Friday, with at least three experiencing severe destruction. The fires, fueled by strong winds carrying hot embers onto roofs and into trees, occurred amidst scorching temperatures exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Nearly 100 firefighters battled the blazes, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the heightened fire risk during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, particularly given the extremely hot and dry conditions. Fire Captain Rob McDade emphasized the danger of airborne embers igniting roofs and trees, urging residents to exercise caution. With temperatures expected to climb even higher over the weekend, reaching 115 degrees Fahrenheit, the risk of fire remains a serious concern.
