A nationwide search is on for the masked gunman who allegedly assassinated UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. Law enforcement officials have pieced together the suspect's movements following the shooting near 54th Street and Sixth Avenue, utilizing video footage and forensic evidence like DNA and fingerprints. The suspect's trail leads from the crime scene to Central Park, where he discarded a backpack later found containing Monopoly money, then to Columbus Avenue where he abandoned a bicycle, and finally to an uptown bus terminal where he was seen boarding a bus approximately an hour after the murder.

Investigators believe the suspect arrived in New York City about ten days prior to the killing, traveling from Atlanta by Greyhound bus. He used a fake ID and paid cash for a room at an Upper West Side hostel. Despite the false identification, police managed to obtain a clear image of him from the hostel's security camera.

The suspect left behind bullet casings inscribed with the words "depose," "deny," and "defend," fueling speculation about a possible link to resentment over denied insurance claims. A criminal profiler has suggested the motive could be revenge or money, possibly connected to a large-scale data breach impacting UnitedHealthcare customers or a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of using a flawed AI model to deny claims.
