California Man Arrested in Connection with Tijuana Femicide, Possibly Linked to Other Murders

Authorities apprehended Bryant "Eduardo" Rivera, 30, near Los Angeles on Thursday. He faces extradition to Baja California, Mexico, on a femicide charge. The Baja California Attorney General, Ricardo Iván Carpio Sánchez, has labeled Rivera a suspected "serial killer," potentially connected to three femicides in Tijuana between September 2021 and February 2022. Investigators assert they have evidence placing Rivera at the crime scenes.

Bryant

Rivera is accused of strangling sex worker Ángela Carolina Acosta Flores on January 24, 2022, in a hotel room adjacent to Tijuana's Hong Kong Bar, where he had met her. He was a regular at the bar and is suspected of killing at least one other sex worker there prior to Flores's death.

Rivera and Flores

Security footage shows Rivera and Flores entering the hotel together and Rivera leaving alone 90 minutes later. Flores's family became concerned when she stopped responding to calls, but hotel staff didn't discover her body until the following day. Rivera had already returned to the U.S. Witnesses identified Rivera as the last person seen with Flores, although he used the alias "Eduardo." One sex worker told authorities Rivera had been with her in the same hotel room just hours before Flores's death.

Ted Bundy

Rivera allegedly returned to the Hong Kong Bar a month later and is suspected in the death of another dancer, found strangled in her SUV. Mexican authorities also believe Rivera may be responsible for the August 2021 murder of a 28-year-old woman who worked at the Hong Kong Bar and another establishment called the Adelita Bar. They are investigating similar unsolved murders to determine if Rivera is connected. Last year, Mexican authorities compared Rivera to Ted Bundy, the infamous American serial killer.
