Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has publicly recommended that the state Supreme Court dismiss an appeal from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after her removal from the election interference case involving former President Trump. Carr's statement follows an appeals court decision earlier this month that disqualified Willis due to a perceived conflict of interest stemming from a past relationship with a special prosecutor on the case.
The appeals court cited concerns about the “appearance of impropriety” related to Willis's involvement with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. Carr, who announced his gubernatorial candidacy last year, expressed his support for the court's decision on social media. He characterized the legal pursuit of Trump as “lawfare” and called for its end. He further urged the Supreme Court to reject Willis's appeal and suggested she redirect her efforts towards addressing violent crime within Fulton County.

The controversy surrounding Willis’s involvement began in February with allegations of an “inappropriate” relationship with Wade, whom she had personally selected for the prosecution team. This ultimately led to Wade's removal from the case. While the court's ruling didn't invalidate the indictment against Trump, it effectively stripped Willis and her office of the authority to continue their prosecution.

The court's filing emphasized that the initial remedy proposed by the trial court, aimed at mitigating the appearance of impropriety, was insufficient to address the concerns raised by Willis's prior actions and decisions regarding the case. The appeals court’s decision has significantly altered the course of the election interference case against Trump.
