Tua Tagovailoa Believes Dolphins are 'Legit Contenders' in Loaded AFC

The Miami Dolphins are entering the 2023 NFL season with a renewed sense of optimism and high expectations. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressed confidence in his team's potential, stating their belief in being legitimate contenders in a challenging AFC landscape.

Following their first playoff appearance since 2016, the Dolphins made significant moves during the offseason to bolster their roster, notably acquiring six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Tagovailoa's confidence stems from the team's improvements on both sides of the ball, particularly the strengthened defense.

He highlighted the team's enhanced familiarity with the offensive schemes, suggesting that this year's Dolphins could be "very, very scary" and "pretty dangerous." However, much of Miami's success hinges on Tagovailoa's health, as he missed several games last season, including the playoff match, due to multiple head injuries.

Despite the setbacks, Tagovailoa achieved career-best numbers in 2022, throwing for 3,548 yards and 25 touchdowns with only eight interceptions. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who had an impressive season with 119 receptions for 1,710 yards, emphasized the importance of staying healthy for the team's overall success. He believes that injuries hampered their progress last year and that maintaining health and consistent practice will be crucial for achieving their goals.

The AFC East has become even more competitive this offseason, particularly with the arrival of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, positioning them as potential Super Bowl contenders. Other formidable quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson further intensify the competition within the conference. Despite the fierce competition, the Dolphins are considered a strong team, currently holding the sixth-best Super Bowl odds in the AFC, according to Bet MGM.
