Arraez Hits .400 as Marlins Rout Blue Jays 11-0

Luis Arraez achieved another 5-for-5 performance, pushing his batting average to an impressive .400, while Jorge Soler's home run contributed to the Miami Marlins' dominant 11-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. The win extends the Marlins' streak to five games.

Jon Berti added three hits, and Jesús Sánchez hit two doubles for the Marlins, who amassed 19 hits—their highest total since June 1, 2022. With the win, Miami improved to a season-best 11 games over .500 with a 42-31 record.

Arraez's exceptional performance marked his second 5-for-5 game in three appearances, rebounding from an 0-for-15 slump. This feat places him among elite company, becoming the fourth MLB player since 1900 with three five-hit games in a single month, joining Hall of Famers George Sisler, Ty Cobb, and Dave Winfield.

Luis Arraez hits a single

Arraez now has 102 hits in just 67 games, the second-fastest to reach 100 hits in Marlins history, trailing only Dee Strange-Gordon's record in 2015. His fifth single, a bases-loaded line drive to left field, drove in two runs and capped a five-run seventh inning. The performance earned him a standing ovation and chants of "Louie!" and "MVP!" from the appreciative crowd.

Jorge Soler hits home run

No player has maintained a .400 batting average for a full season since Ted Williams' remarkable .406 in 1941.

Soler's two-run homer and Garrett Cooper's RBI single in the third inning gave Miami an early lead. Soler's 21st home run came off a breaking pitch from Blue Jays starter José Berríos. Miami further extended their lead with Soler's sacrifice fly and Sánchez's RBI groundout in the fourth.

With a commanding lead, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker opted to pinch-hit for Arraez in the eighth. Rookie Jacob Amaya stepped in and delivered a single, driving in Miami's final run.

Bryan Hoeing started for Miami and pitched four scoreless innings in a bullpen game, allowing three hits and striking out a career-high five batters. Huascar Brazobán (1-1) followed and retired the next six batters, surrendering only one single. Berríos (7-5) took the loss for Toronto, lasting only four innings and giving up five runs and eight hits—his shortest outing this season.

The Blue Jays had a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning with singles from Daulton Varsho and Bo Bichette. However, a 5-4-3 double play on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s hard-hit ball and a subsequent strikeout ended the threat.

The Blue Jays made several roster moves, recalling catcher Tyler Heineman and right-handed pitcher Trent Thornton from Triple-A Buffalo, while optioning Bowden Francis. Catcher Alejandro Kirk was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hand laceration. For the Marlins, center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week as he recovers from turf toe.
