During the Dubai Tennis Championships, Emma Raducanu faced a distressing encounter with an overly enthusiastic fan. The incident occurred during her match against Karolina Muchova, prompting a pause in play and the fan's removal.
The WTA revealed that the same individual had approached Raducanu in a public area the day before, exhibiting what they described as "fixated behavior." According to Dubai authorities, the man left a note for Raducanu, took her picture, and caused her distress. He was subsequently detained by Dubai Police. Though Raducanu decided not to press charges, the man signed an agreement to stay away from her and was banned from attending future tournaments.
Raducanu addressed the situation on Instagram, thanking her supporters and expressing pride in her performance despite the unsettling start to the match. She commended Muchova's sportsmanship and wished her well. This isn't Raducanu's first experience with unwanted attention. In 2022, she was granted a restraining order against a man in London who stalked her, appearing at her residence and leaving unsolicited gifts.
