Neymar Fined .3 Million for Environmental Violations at Brazil Mansion

Soccer superstar Neymar has been hit with a hefty $3.3 million fine for numerous environmental infractions during renovations at his luxurious Mangaratiba mansion, located just outside Rio de Janeiro. The city hall issued four separate fines, totaling 16 million Brazilian reals, after investigations revealed unauthorized construction of an artificial lake and several other violations.

The city's official statement detailed a range of offenses, including initiating construction without necessary environmental permits, diverting a river's course, displacing rock and sand, removing vegetation without authorization, and disregarding an embargo. A document obtained by The Associated Press further revealed that Neymar was fined again for swimming in the artificial lake after authorities had explicitly prohibited access due to environmental concerns.

Reports suggest that Neymar hosted a celebratory gathering upon completion of the lake's construction. Neymar's spokesperson declined to comment on the situation. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has the option to appeal the decision, which will also be reviewed by law enforcement for potential legal action.

Genesis Ecossistemas, the company responsible for constructing the 10,764-square-foot artificial lake, proudly showcased the 10-day project on social media. The city hall's comprehensive 46-page document indicates that Neymar received the maximum penalty for each violation. It also alleges that Neymar's father, Neymar da Silva Santos, engaged in verbal altercations with local authorities when they intervened to halt the construction work. The city hall estimates the unauthorized construction cost approximately $25,000.
