Television personality Kathie Lee Gifford recently shared a harrowing story about how Donald Trump intervened to protect her and her newborn daughter from a serious threat over three decades ago. In an emotional interview on "The Sage Steele Show," Gifford recounted the incident, which occurred around the time she was scheduled to host the "Miss America" pageant.
Gifford explained that the FBI contacted her then-husband, Frank Gifford, informing him of a credible death threat from a dangerous individual with a history of violent crimes. The authorities advised the Giffords to maintain their planned travel to Atlantic City to avoid alerting the suspect.
However, Frank Gifford, deeply concerned, reached out to Donald Trump, who at the time owned the casino and hotel where Gifford typically stayed during her visits to Atlantic City. Trump assured Frank that he would ensure the safety of Gifford and her daughter. Trump then contacted Kathie Lee, offering her the use of his helicopter for transportation to Atlantic City, ostensibly to congratulate her on the recent birth of her daughter.
Upon arrival, Gifford was met by Trump's security detail, who provided protection throughout her stay. The magnitude of the threat became clear to Gifford only when she saw a newspaper headline detailing the danger she was in. She expressed profound gratitude for Trump's decisive actions, which she believes saved her and her daughter's lives. She also noted that the FBI had been simultaneously protecting her young son at their Connecticut home.
Gifford revealed that she had previously refrained from sharing this story publicly due to advice from the late Rev. Billy Graham to avoid political commentary. However, she felt compelled to speak out now, emphasizing the personal nature of her relationship with Trump and his willingness to help in a time of crisis. While acknowledging her discomfort with some of Trump's political rhetoric, she reiterated her deep appreciation for his actions in this specific instance.
