Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, projected top NFL draft picks from the University of Colorado, are taking the field for the Alamo Bowl despite the risk to their professional careers. To mitigate this risk, they've secured unprecedented disability insurance policies, the largest ever seen in college football, covering them in case of serious injury during the game against BYU.
Head Coach Deion Sanders emphasized the importance of protecting these potentially high-draft players, stating that numerous players with draft potential have had disability insurance throughout the season. He highlighted the significance of the coverage for Sanders and Hunter, acknowledging their projected high draft positions and the unprecedented level of insurance coverage they've received.
Athletic Director Rick George confirmed that the policies represent the highest coverage in college football history and credited Deion Sanders with initiating the additional insurance for the two star players.
Both Sanders and Hunter are anticipated to be among the top five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter, a standout two-way player, recently won the Heisman Trophy after an exceptional season. His impressive statistics as a wide receiver earned him the Biletnikoff Award. He also made a significant impact on defense as a cornerback, garnering him the Bednarik Award – a historic double win.
Shedeur Sanders, Colorado's quarterback, has also demonstrated remarkable performance this season, leading the team to a significantly improved record. His achievements have been recognized with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year title. He is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in the upcoming draft, alongside Miami's Cam Ward. The New York Giants, currently holding the No. 1 pick, are in a favorable position to potentially draft one of these Colorado stars.
