In anticipation of President Trump's address to Congress, former Representative Carolyn Bourdeaux (D-GA) emphasized the need for a bipartisan strategy to address the substantial $36 trillion national debt. Bourdeaux, now leading the Concord Coalition's new fiscal responsibility initiative, Concord Action, spoke exclusively with Fox News Digital, urging the President to demonstrate a genuine commitment to resolving this financial challenge.
Bourdeaux highlighted the necessity of cross-party collaboration, stating that successful budget resolutions consistently require Democratic involvement. She underscored the importance of a comprehensive, bipartisan approach, meticulously reviewing national spending line by line. Drawing from her experience working with Republicans to balance Georgia's state budget during the Great Recession, she advocated for an approach that addresses wasteful spending while also considering necessary program adjustments and potential tax reforms.

With the economy a primary concern for voters in the 2024 election, Bourdeaux recalled the successful bipartisan budget balancing efforts of the 1990s under President Clinton and a Republican-controlled Congress. She expressed optimism that such cooperation can be achieved again, emphasizing the need for a concrete plan of action. Bourdeaux challenged the current lack of a substantial plan from any party, urging the development and implementation of a serious strategy.

In response, Deputy White House Press Secretary Harrison Fields affirmed President Trump's commitment to government efficiency and responsible use of taxpayer dollars since the beginning of his term. He highlighted the administration's dedication to curbing spending on foreign wars, what they deem "woke ideology," and unnecessary government programs. Fields pointed to Elon Musk's leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as central to Trump's cost-cutting strategy, referencing DOGE's estimated $105 billion in savings through contract cancellations, workforce reductions, and regulatory changes. The statement also noted the establishment of a Senate DOGE Caucus focused on identifying and eliminating government waste.

Furthermore, a bipartisan bill requiring the inclusion of improper payment data in the annual presidential budget was recently introduced in the Senate, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance fiscal responsibility and transparency.
