A recent social media post by a Boston University employee targeting the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has ignited a firestorm of controversy. Jared May, identified online as an assistant media technician at the university, shared a graphic on Bluesky depicting several young men purportedly working for DOGE with the words "WANTED FOR TREASON, DEAD OR ALIVE." He also included their names in the caption.
DOGE, spearheaded by Elon Musk, aims to reduce government waste and improve efficiency, a key promise of President Trump's 2024 campaign. The department has faced criticism, particularly from Democrats, for its aggressive approach to spending cuts.

Boston University responded to the incident, stating their awareness of the post and emphasizing that the views expressed do not align with the institution's values. They declined to comment on personnel matters. May's staff profile page appears to have been removed from the university website.

Musk himself responded to the post on X, labeling it a crime. DOGE has yet to issue an official statement. The department's activities have drawn sharp criticism from figures like Senator Chuck Schumer, who accused DOGE of being an "unelected shadow government" conducting a "hostile takeover" and exceeding its authority.

Musk defended DOGE's actions, characterizing the backlash as a sign of the department's effectiveness. He framed the effort to reduce government waste as a crucial opportunity.
