Alameda County DA Pamela Price Defends Policies Amid Recall Effort, Likens it to January 6th

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is standing firm on her progressive criminal justice approach, drawing parallels between a recall campaign against her and the January 6th Capitol riot. In a recent interview with KTVU-TV, Price characterized those behind the recall as "election deniers" attempting to subvert the will of the voters, mirroring the events of the insurrection.

The recall committee, Save Alameda for Everyone, recently filed the necessary paperwork to initiate fundraising for their campaign. This follows growing criticism of Price's policies, including her handling of the case involving the death of toddler Jasper Wu, who was killed by a stray bullet during a gang-related freeway shooting. Critics, including Oakland Chinatown advocate Carl Chan, have expressed concerns that Price's decision not to pursue special circumstances charges against the accused sends the wrong message about consequences for violent crime. Price maintains that her office takes Wu's death seriously and is acting in accordance with the law regarding sentencing enhancements.

Price has also accused the media of unfair attacks, specifically calling out ABC7 and its alleged allies for supporting policies that contribute to mass incarceration. This mirrors similar criticisms faced by other California prosecutors like Chesa Boudin and George Gascon, who have also been targeted for their progressive approaches to criminal justice. Boudin was recalled from his position as San Francisco District Attorney last year, and Gascon has survived two recall attempts while facing ongoing opposition.
