Former British Army veteran Adam Smith-Connor expressed surprise and gratitude after US Vice President JD Vance brought his case into the international spotlight. Vance highlighted Smith-Connor's prosecution for silently praying near an abortion clinic during an address at the Munich Security Conference, criticizing restrictions on religious freedom and free speech.
Smith-Connor, a physiotherapist, learned of the Vice President's remarks during a break between patient appointments. He was found guilty of violating a Public Spaces Protection Order and fined approximately $11,330 USD for praying silently with his head bowed near the clinic.

Vance's address at the Munich Security Conference condemned what he described as "Soviet-style" censorship in Europe, using Smith-Connor's case as a prime example. He argued that the prosecution infringed upon Smith-Connor's basic liberties, emphasizing that the veteran was praying silently and not obstructing or interacting with anyone.

Lois McLatchie Miller, a senior legal officer at Alliance Defending Freedom International (ADF International), informed Smith-Connor about Vance's intervention. ADF International is providing legal support for Smith-Connor's appeal. Miller stressed the significance of the Vice President's remarks, stating that the case exemplifies censorship in the West and raises concerns about the future of freedom if individuals are penalized for their thoughts.
