Two Security Incidents at US Capitol During Trump's Visit

During a visit by former President Trump to the U.S. Capitol, two separate security incidents unfolded, leading to the arrests of two individuals. The first involved a Virginia man, Adrian J. Hinton, 35, who attempted to ignite a bag on top of his car near the Grant Memorial. While the bag extinguished itself, Capitol Police declared the vehicle suspicious and investigated, ultimately determining it posed no threat. Hinton was arrested for unlawful activities, with investigators finding accelerants in the bag and noting the car had been spray-painted. The second incident occurred earlier in the day when a man, Mel J. Horne, 44, of Washington, D.C., attempted to enter the Capitol Visitor Center with a machete and three knives in his bag. He was apprehended at a security checkpoint and arrested for carrying dangerous weapons. U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger emphasized the critical nature of vigilance during this period of heightened security.
