Trump Open to Pardoning NYC Mayor Adams Amid Federal Investigation

Former President Donald Trump has indicated he would consider pardoning New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is currently under federal investigation for alleged corruption and bribery. During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump stated he believed Adams had been treated unfairly and would be open to reviewing the case for a potential pardon. The federal indictment alleges Adams solicited illegal campaign contributions from foreign entities, falsified records to conceal these activities, and defrauded taxpayers of $10 million over the past decade. It also claims Adams accepted free or heavily discounted vacations funded by foreign benefactors.

Trump downplayed the accusations against Adams, particularly those concerning free luxury travel and airline upgrades provided by Turkish officials, suggesting such perks are commonplace. He also implied that Adams was targeted due to his tough stance on illegal immigration and its impact on New York City. Trump claimed to have predicted Adams' indictment months before it occurred.

Recently, Adams met with Tom Homan, Trump's pick for border czar, to discuss the migrant crisis. Adams reported a productive meeting, highlighting shared goals in addressing violent crimes committed by both New Yorkers and migrants seeking asylum. Adams has consistently denied any wrongdoing. In a prior appearance on "The View," he avoided directly addressing questions about aligning with Trump for a potential pardon, reiterating his innocence.
