Country music icon Toby Keith, who revealed his stomach cancer diagnosis last summer, has made a spirited return to performing. Over the Fourth of July weekend, Keith delighted fans with two surprise concerts in his hometown of Norman, Oklahoma.
Attendees described the atmosphere as electric, with Keith playing for roughly two and a half hours each night. Norman resident Joanna Hall noted the singer's gratitude for the large turnout, remarking on his surprise at the crowd's size. The performances were initially intended to be low-key, almost secret affairs.
This return to the stage marks a significant milestone in Keith's cancer journey. Last month, his representatives shared that the singer was "feeling good" and anticipated a return to touring soon. Keith himself recently revealed that his tumor has shrunk considerably and his blood work is positive. He remains cautiously optimistic, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of cancer while emphasizing the encouraging progress he's made.
While continuing chemotherapy, Keith expressed confidence in his stamina and readiness to perform, stating his need to assess his endurance over a few nights before fully resuming his touring schedule.
