Simone Biles Hints at Retirement, Uncertain About 2028 Olympics

Following her triumphant performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she secured three gold and one silver medal, solidifying her status as the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history, Simone Biles has hinted at the possibility of retirement. While the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics might seem like a natural next step, Biles expressed uncertainty about her future participation in an interview with Sports Illustrated, where she was honored as their 2024 Sportsperson of the Year.

Biles reflected on the potential implications of returning to the Games after achieving such remarkable success, describing it as potentially "greedy." She emphasized the significant life changes she's experiencing, including marriage to Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, and questioned the sacrifices another Olympic run would entail. "What sacrifices would be made if I go back now?" she pondered. "When you’re younger, it’s prom, college. Now it’s starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?"

Biles' recent focus has shifted towards supporting her husband's NFL career. The couple married in 2023, and Biles has been seen cheering Owens on at various games. Owens, who signed with the Bears in 2024 after a stint with the Green Bay Packers, was even excused from the beginning of training camp to support Biles during her Olympic journey.

Looking ahead, Biles acknowledged the long odds of a 2028 Olympic comeback. Expressing a sense of contentment with her accomplishments, she stated, "I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done."
