SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey's Contract Extended Through 2028

The Southeastern Conference has secured its leader for the foreseeable future. Commissioner Greg Sankey has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the powerhouse conference through 2028. While financial details remain undisclosed, the announcement confirms Sankey's continued leadership into his 14th year with the SEC. He initially took the reins as the eighth commissioner in the conference's history back in 2015.

Sankey's tenure has been marked by significant changes and achievements within the SEC. He co-chaired the NCAA Transformation Committee, playing a key role in the expansion of the College Football Playoff from four to twelve teams. Furthermore, he oversaw the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, set to join in 2024, and solidified a substantial 10-year broadcast agreement with ABC/ESPN for football and basketball.

University of Alabama president and newly appointed SEC President, Stuart Bell, lauded Sankey's leadership in elevating the conference's national standing, highlighting the respect he commands among officials across the SEC. Under Sankey's leadership, SEC schools have achieved remarkable athletic success, securing eight national titles in the previous season alone, including Georgia's repeat victory in the College Football Playoff and LSU's triumphs in women’s basketball and baseball. The conference has amassed an impressive 48 national titles during Sankey's time as commissioner.
