Amber Ruffin Jokes About Trump's Potential Return to White House Correspondents' Dinner

Comedian Amber Ruffin recently shared her thoughts on the possibility of former President Donald Trump attending the upcoming White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. During an appearance on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper," Ruffin, who is set to headline the dinner in April, expressed her hope that Trump would skip the event.

While acknowledging that a presidential appearance is traditionally a highlight of the dinner, Ruffin humorously stated that "no one wants" Trump there. She playfully suggested that while Trump might be missing out on a unique presidential experience, many would prefer to avoid being in the same room as him.

The conversation then shifted to Ruffin's boss, Seth Meyers, who hosted the dinner in 2011. During that event, Meyers directed jokes at Trump, who was in attendance. Some speculate that this comedic ribbing may have played a role in Trump's decision to run for president in 2015.

Ruffin jokingly blamed Meyers for "getting us into this mess," referring to Trump's presidency. She acknowledged the irony of the situation, admitting that the joke ultimately ended up being on everyone else.

The White House Correspondents' Association Dinner is an annual event attended by politicians, journalists, and celebrities. It traditionally includes humorous remarks from both the host and the president. President Biden attended the dinner in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Trump, however, has not indicated whether he plans to attend this year's event.
