After a period of medical leave due to an undisclosed health issue, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is set to return to his position on July 17th. Monahan had announced his temporary departure on June 13th to focus on his recovery. In a memo to the tour's policy board and players, he expressed gratitude for the support he received and noted significant improvements in his health thanks to medical care and the support of his family.
Monahan's leave coincided with the surprising announcement of a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf's Public Investment Fund. This partnership followed previous statements by Monahan where he had dismissed any potential collaboration with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf. The merger involves a substantial financial investment from the Public Investment Fund, a detail Monahan shared with players in a memo.
Upon announcing his return, Monahan expressed his eagerness to re-engage with players, partners, fans, and the broader PGA Tour community. He aims to address any questions and safeguard the future of professional golf. His return is scheduled for the week of The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
