A recent interview with a German man, identified as Helge B., has provided potential new insights into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Helge B. claims that Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the case, inadvertently confessed to the kidnapping during a conversation years ago. According to Helge B., when questioned about how Madeleine could vanish without a trace, Brueckner responded, "She didn't scream." This statement led Helge B. to suspect Brueckner's involvement.
Brueckner, who resided in Praia da Luz, Portugal, around the time of Madeleine's disappearance in 2007, has consistently denied any involvement. He became a formal suspect in 2020. Helge B. initially perceived Brueckner as friendly and sociable, but his perception changed after discovering disturbing videos in Brueckner's apartment. He alleges these videos depict sexual assaults on an elderly woman and a teenage girl. While Helge B. claims to have lost the videos, he has reportedly shared details of their content with Scotland Yard.
Helge B. theorizes that Madeleine's abduction was the result of a burglary gone wrong. He believes Brueckner may have stumbled upon the children in the apartment and impulsively taken Madeleine. Currently, Brueckner is serving time for raping an American woman in 2005 and faces separate charges for child sex crimes allegedly committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. The German Federal Police (BKA) have reportedly offered Helge B. protection due to his involvement in the case. Both the BKA and the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
