Man Arrested After Brush Fire Near Griffith Observatory, Faces Vehicle Tampering Charges

Los Angeles police have apprehended a 26-year-old man named Kevin Caledron following a brush fire incident near the Griffith Observatory on Monday afternoon. The fire, which occurred near the 2700 block of Glendower Avenue, was swiftly contained by the LAPD and LAFD. While a witness reportedly suggested the fire was started by a homeless individual, Caledron, who is currently held on a $30,000 bond, faces two misdemeanor counts of vehicle tampering. The connection between these charges and the brush fire remains unclear, and authorities have not charged him with arson. This incident follows a string of arrests made in evacuation zones due to the recent devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area, where charges have included arson, looting, and price gouging. District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the commitment to holding accountable those who exploit the crisis for personal gain. The ongoing wildfires have tragically claimed 27 lives, with 10 fatalities attributed to the Palisades Fire and 17 to the Eaton Fire. One recent arson arrest involved Jose Carranza-Escobar, a homeless individual accused of attempting to ignite a fallen tree at Pioneer Park.
