Jordan Signals Ongoing FBI Oversight Despite Wray's Resignation

Representative Jim Jordan, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, expressed his satisfaction with FBI Director Christopher Wray's resignation but indicated his continued scrutiny of the bureau's actions under Wray's leadership. Jordan criticized Wray's handling of various matters, including investigations into parents attending school board meetings, the memo on pro-life Catholics, alleged retaliation against whistleblowers, surveillance of congressional staff, and the search of former President Trump's residence.

Wray has previously refuted allegations of targeting pro-life activists and defended the FBI's response to a DOJ memo concerning school board meeting conduct. He acknowledged last year that the directive lacked "compelling nationwide law enforcement justification." Jordan, however, has consistently questioned Wray's leadership and overseen multiple House Judiciary Committee inquiries into his actions. He confirmed that this oversight will continue, anticipating further reports that will illuminate the situation. Jordan also commended President-elect Trump's nomination of Kash Patel to succeed Wray.

News of Wray's resignation, seven years into his ten-year term, broke earlier, with Trump's chosen replacement already engaged in meetings with senators in preparation for a confirmation hearing. Wray explained his decision to step down in January to FBI colleagues, citing a desire to prioritize the bureau's mission and avoid further entanglement in political controversies. Jordan expressed no surprise at Wray's resignation, given the President-elect's nomination of a successor.
