Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, currently serving time for numerous sexual assault convictions, was reportedly stabbed multiple times during an incident at a federal prison in Florida. The attack took place on Sunday at USP Coleman in Sumterville. Sources indicate Nassar was stabbed in the neck, back, and chest, leading to a collapsed lung. He is currently in stable condition. Prison officials confirmed the stabbing and the hospitalization of an inmate but did not release names. A longtime prison employee and union president suggested understaffing may have been a contributing factor. Nassar's crimes involved the sexual abuse of young athletes, including Olympic medalists, during his tenure at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics. He also pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. In 2019, over 150 victims, including Simone Biles, gave impact statements detailing Nassar's abuse and the failure of authorities to act on reports. They subsequently sought over $1 billion from the federal government for the FBI's inaction. Just last month, Nassar's final appeal was denied by the Michigan Supreme Court, upholding his decades-long sentence.
