Ex-Obama Staffers Slam Biden's Jan 6 Op-Ed as 'Feckless', Out of Touch

Former Obama staffers and hosts of the "Pod Save America" podcast, Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor, criticized President Biden's Washington Post op-ed about the January 6th Capitol riot. They labeled it "feckless" and accused Democrats of "performing virtue" after Vice President Kamala Harris certified Donald Trump’s election. Favreau, a former Obama speechwriter, expressed frustration with the Democratic Party's language surrounding institutions and democracy.

Biden's op-ed warned of a potential repeat of the January 6th incident if its history is forgotten, urging the nation to remember it annually. He stressed the importance of learning from the past to avoid repeating mistakes.

"Pod Save America" co-hosts, former Obama staffers Tommy Vietor, Jon Lovett, and Jon Favreau.

Lovett argued that Biden misinterpreted the quote about repeating history, comparing him to a "stubborn old man" fixated on the past. Vietor agreed with this assessment. The hosts also claimed the op-ed was disconnected from the concerns of most voters, who they believe are largely apathetic towards the events of January 6th. Favreau stated that the op-ed perfectly exemplified the current state of political inaction.

The podcast hosts criticized the Democratic Party's communication style, suggesting that its "woke" and academic rhetoric alienates many voters. They echoed recent calls for the party to adopt more straightforward language. The hosts also criticized Biden's op-ed for lacking concrete actions to counter what they perceive as Trump's "coup attempt." Vietor expressed his frustration with the Democratic Party's overall approach, while Lovett criticized the perceived focus on virtue signaling rather than effective political action.

Vietor expressed renewed frustration with Biden's re-election bid, recalling the pressure campaign urging him to withdraw after a poorly received debate performance against Trump. The hosts pointed out how Democrats and mainstream media often downplayed concerns about Biden's mental state during his first term, citing then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's defense of Biden's mental acuity. Vietor called Biden and his aides "delusional" for reportedly believing he could have won re-election. Favreau referenced an earlier podcast episode where he claimed Biden's internal polling predicted a substantial electoral defeat.

The hosts concluded by highlighting similar criticism directed at other Democratic politicians, referencing Kamala Harris's campaign aides being accused of lacking accountability for her election loss after appearing on their podcast.
