A recent Gallup poll reveals a concerning decline in Americans' trust in their government, reaching the lowest point among all G7 nations. Just 31% of American adults express confidence in the U.S. government, a stark drop from the 56% recorded in 2006, which was the highest among the G7 at the time. A significant 69% of Americans now report a lack of confidence.
The United Kingdom trails closely behind the U.S., with only 33% of British adults expressing confidence in their government. In contrast, Germany leads the G7 with 61% citizen confidence, followed by Canada (51%), France (46%), Japan (43%), and Italy (41%).

The Gallup data illustrates a sharp, consistent decline in American confidence over recent years. The trend further intensified following President Biden's inauguration in 2021, dropping from 46% to 40%, and again to the current 31% in 2022. This matches the historical lows observed in 2013, 2016, and 2018.

This decline in public trust coincides with President Biden's consistently low approval ratings, which have fluctuated between 42% and 46% over the past year. Adding to this, another recent Gallup poll indicates that national pride is also waning, with only 39% of U.S. adults expressing "extreme pride" in the country – barely above the record low of 2022.
