Major League Baseball (MLB) announced Wednesday that New York Yankees pitcher Jimmy Cordero has been suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season, including the postseason, due to a violation of the league's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Cordero has been placed on the restricted list and will undergo a confidential evaluation and treatment program overseen by the Joint Policy Board, as stipulated by the policy.

The specific details surrounding the incident that led to Cordero's suspension have not been publicly disclosed. The suspension will cover the remaining 76 games of the regular season. Cordero underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021 while with the Chicago White Sox, causing him to miss the entire season. He spent 2022 with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 2023, Cordero made 31 appearances for the Yankees, posting a 3.86 ERA across 32 2/3 innings pitched. His last appearance was on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
