Utah Mom Accused of Husband's Murder Sues His Estate Amidst Financial Disputes

Kouri Richins, accused of poisoning her husband Eric Richins with a fentanyl-laced drink in March 2022, is now suing his estate. The 33-year-old children's book author is facing charges related to Eric's death and alleged life insurance fraud, with claims totaling nearly $2 million. The lawsuit centers on the couple's shared home in Kamas, Utah, which Kouri claims is rightfully half hers despite being solely in Eric's name legally. She argues that both contributed to the mortgage and treated the property as a joint asset. The lawsuit, filed against Eric's sister, seeks half the equity, estimated to be worth at least $1.9 million. Prior to his death, Eric reportedly removed Kouri from his will and named his sister as beneficiary, fearing for his life after alleged previous poisoning attempts by Kouri. Financial disagreements, particularly concerning a $2 million mansion Kouri intended to flip, added further strain to their relationship. The day after Eric's death, Kouri closed the deal on the mansion independently. Following the tragedy, she authored a children's book about grief titled "Are You With Me?" aimed at helping children cope with loss.
