Country music star Travis Tritt has publicly supported Jason Aldean following the backlash against Aldean's music video for "Try That In A Small Town." Tritt defended Aldean on social media, arguing that online criticism doesn't reflect the majority opinion and encouraging Aldean to stay true to himself.
Tritt's defense comes after accusations that the video promotes violence, racism, and pro-lynching sentiments. Tritt previously voiced his admiration for the song, stating that it reflects the views of many Americans who are against violence perpetrated by certain activist groups. He used an American flag emoji to emphasize his point.
The controversy also involves singer Sheryl Crow, who criticized the video for promoting violence. Tritt countered Crow's criticism by suggesting she should have condemned violence from BLM and Antifa riots.
Tritt reinforced his support for Aldean by responding to a social media user who hoped Aldean wouldn't apologize, stating confidently, "He won’t."
Aldean himself has addressed the controversy, denying the accusations and explaining that the song is about the sense of community he experienced growing up. He emphasized that the video uses real news footage and that the lyrics do not mention race. He also highlighted his personal experience with mass violence, referencing the Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting and the Nashville school shooting.
The production company for the video, TackleBox, noted that the Maury County Courthouse, which features prominently in the video, has been used as a filming location for various other productions. Aldean maintains that his political views are well-known and that the song expresses a desire for a return to normalcy in a time of frequent disturbing headlines.
