A somber discovery unfolded at Grand Canyon National Park on February 10th. Park rangers located the body of a 20-year-old Californian man near the Yavapai Geology Museum, a thousand feet below the canyon rim. The grim find followed reports of a damaged rock wall and scattered vehicle debris east of the museum earlier that morning. An aerial search by park aviation personnel pinpointed both the wreckage and the deceased. A recovery team, with air support, retrieved the body. Park officials are working with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office to investigate the incident. Repairs to the damaged wall are underway and expected to continue through February 26th, with a temporary bypass in place for visitors. This tragic event adds to the park's annual average of 10 to 15 fatalities. The man's identity has not been released.
