Tom Selleck Eyes Western Return After "Blue Bloods" Conclusion

Following the culmination of "Blue Bloods" after an impressive 14-season run, Tom Selleck, the actor who portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan, has expressed his desire to return to the Western genre. In a recent interview, the 79-year-old actor indicated his interest in collaborating with "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan on a Western project.

Selleck, a resident of a 63-acre California ranch, has a history with Westerns, having starred in six throughout his career. His Western credits include the 1979 miniseries "The Sacketts," the TV movie "Concrete Cowboys," and the 1982 film "The Shadow Riders," all featuring Sam Elliott. One of his most recognized roles is that of Matthew Quigley in the 1990 Australian Western "Quigley Down Under," a role he holds in high regard.

His Western filmography also includes the award-winning 1997 TV movie "Last Stand at Saber River" and the 2003 film "Monte Walsh." Selleck expressed fondness for working with Elliott again, acknowledging Elliott's role in Sheridan's "Yellowstone" prequel series, "1883."

While uncertain about his next project, Selleck stated he's not looking to play a character similar to Frank Reagan. He also expressed openness to a "Blue Bloods" spin-off, but with the caveat that it not involve Reagan's retirement. He mentioned a preference for revisiting his role as Jesse Stone, the police chief he portrayed in nine TV movies based on Robert B. Parker's novels. Selleck acknowledged the challenge of reprising the role given the passage of time but recognized the continued interest in the character.

Selleck admitted to finding the end of "Blue Bloods" difficult, particularly missing the camaraderie of the cast and crew. He also expressed frustration with the show's cancellation, highlighting its consistent success and strong ratings performance, believing it was often taken for granted by the network.
