Teen's Strange Behavior After Fatal High-Speed Crash Captured on Bodycam

Newly released police bodycam footage reveals the unusual demeanor of Mackenzie Shirilla following her arrest for a high-speed crash that killed her boyfriend and his friend in July 2022. Shirilla, 19, was convicted of intentionally driving her Toyota Camry into a brick wall at over 100 mph in Strongsville, Ohio.

The video, released by the Strongsville Police Department, shows officers arresting a tearful Shirilla, informing her of the aggravated murder charges. Even amidst the serious situation, Shirilla displays an odd concern for her bracelet, asking officers to be careful not to break it as they adjust her handcuffs.

After being placed in a patrol car, Shirilla attempts to rest during the ride to the station. Prosecutors argued that Shirilla, then 17, deliberately caused the crash to end a troubled relationship with her boyfriend, Dominic Russo. Davion Flanagan was also in the vehicle at the time.

A judge sentenced Shirilla to 15 years to life, with the terms to be served concurrently, making her eligible for parole in 15 years. Both Russo and Flanagan were declared dead at the scene, while Shirilla was unconscious and required extrication from the wreckage. Prior to the crash, Shirilla and the two victims had reportedly been using marijuana.
