Smith's tweet emphasized his existing friendship with Christie but positioned the contribution link as a means to "see who’s the best man or woman for the job." This move comes shortly after Smith publicly stated his belief that President Biden should not seek re-election. He expressed this view despite having voted for Biden in 2020, citing the president's age as a concern.
Christie, who served as New Jersey's 55th governor from 2010 to 2018, recently launched his second bid for the presidency. He previously contended for the Republican nomination in 2016. Interestingly, Christie shares a connection with Smith through their mutual involvement in sports media, with Christie having guest hosted on WFAN and even being considered as a replacement for Mike Francesa.
