A high-speed collision on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) has left a Suffolk County police officer in critical condition. 29-year-old Cody Fisher has been charged with multiple offenses, including driving while impaired by drugs, second-degree assault, fleeing a police officer, and reckless driving, following the incident Sunday evening.
Officer Brendon Gallagher, a member of the Street Takeover Task Force, was conducting a traffic stop when Fisher's 2021 Ford Mustang sped past. Officer Gallagher pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens activated. Fisher subsequently lost control of his Mustang, sideswiping Gallagher's patrol car, causing it to veer off the highway and overturn. Fisher's vehicle also left the roadway, striking a light post.

An off-duty Nassau County police officer who happened upon the scene apprehended Fisher. Officer Gallagher was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Fisher was taken to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fisher pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
