New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones publicly challenged the NFL's gambling regulations following the indefinite suspensions of three players for violating league rules. Jones expressed his disagreement on social media after Indianapolis Colts players Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry, along with free agent Demetrius Taylor, were suspended for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season.

Jones's central argument highlighted what he perceived as a contradiction: players risk their physical well-being for the team's success, yet they are prohibited from placing even small bets on their team winning. He suggested a potential compromise, allowing players to wager, but only on outcomes that benefit their team. This perspective comes amidst a larger discussion on social media concerning the "integrity" of the game.
Jones's criticism follows a series of NFL crackdowns on gambling policy violations. In April, three players received indefinite suspensions, and two others were handed six-game suspensions for the start of the 2023 season.

Adding to the recent disciplinary actions, Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere received a six-game suspension for betting on non-NFL games at a team facility, another violation of league rules. The NFL reiterated its gambling policy, which prohibits any form of gambling within team or league facilities. Following the suspensions, the Colts released Rodgers and Berry.

The players given indefinite suspensions have the option to appeal for reinstatement after the 2023 season concludes.
