In a remarkable act of civic duty, a good Samaritan in Oklahoma pursued a suspect allegedly assaulting a woman in a moving vehicle, providing real-time updates to 911 dispatchers, ultimately leading to the suspect's apprehension. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office publicly commended the individual on Twitter, expressing gratitude for their role in apprehending Robert Wayne Grayson.
The incident unfolded on Saturday near Owasso, a Tulsa suburb, when the good Samaritan observed a car swerving erratically on Highway 75. Upon closer inspection, the witness observed the male driver violently attacking the female passenger. Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Casey Roebuck described the assault as brutal, with the woman being repeatedly hit and punched.
Remaining on the phone with 911, the good Samaritan relayed crucial location details of both their own position and the suspect's vehicle as it moved from the county into Tulsa city limits. Roebuck highlighted the woman's desperate attempts to escape, hanging out the window and seeking help from passersby.
According to reports, the victim attempted to exit the vehicle at a red light in Tulsa but was thrown from the car as the suspect accelerated. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. Undeterred, the good Samaritan continued tracking the suspect to his apartment, where deputies made the arrest.
Bodycam footage captures the arrest, with Grayson claiming to be the victim and alleging he was punched and kicked. Deputies countered, informing him a witness had followed him for miles and observed the assault. A meth pipe was reportedly discovered in Grayson's pocket upon his arrest.
Roebuck praised the good Samaritan's actions, emphasizing the importance of observing, reporting, and avoiding direct confrontation. She issued a stern warning to potential abusers, highlighting the prevalence of observant citizens willing to intervene and assist law enforcement. Grayson now faces charges of kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threatening a violent act, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
