NYC Mayor Eric Adams Addresses Indictment, Hints at Political Motivation

New York City Mayor Eric Adams suggested his vocal opposition to the Biden administration's immigration policies might be connected to the federal charges he's facing. Adams was indicted in September on five counts, including bribery and campaign finance violations. He has pleaded not guilty.

In an interview with Fox News, Adams emphatically denied any wrongdoing, stating, "I did not break the law. I did nothing wrong." He questioned the timing of the indictment, calling it "clearly suspect," and pledged to continue fighting the charges.

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, previously stated that Adams "abused his position… to take bribes and solicit illegal campaign contributions," prioritizing the "interests of his benefactors… above those of his constituents."

When asked about the FBI investigation and the recent resignation of a key advisor who may face indictment, Adams expressed no concern, emphasizing his commitment to following the law and stating his team does the same. He also referenced a former aide charged with witness tampering for allegedly deleting communication records.

Former President Trump reportedly indicated he would consider pardoning Adams, citing perceived unfair treatment. Adams said he hadn’t requested a pardon and that his conversations with Trump focused on their shared interest in New York City.

Adams reiterated his stance that he should not have been charged and described the situation as both a professional and personal tragedy.
