Star defensive end Myles Garrett has publicly requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, expressing his desire to compete for a Super Bowl championship. The four-time All-Pro and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, drafted first overall by Cleveland in 2017, stated that his ambition to win outweighs his fondness for the city and fanbase.

Garrett emphasized that his ultimate goal has always been a Super Bowl victory, not simply individual accolades. He acknowledged the difficulty of this decision, given his strong ties to Northeast Ohio and the Browns' loyal supporters. However, he believes a change of scenery is necessary to pursue his championship aspirations.
Garrett is coming off his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks, recording 14 in 17 games. He has consistently achieved 14 or more sacks in each of the past four seasons. Despite his individual success, the Browns have made only three playoff appearances during Garrett's tenure, most recently losing to the Houston Texans in the 2023 Wild Card Round.

Garrett signed a lucrative five-year, $125 million contract extension in 2020, with two years remaining. Browns General Manager Andrew Berry has firmly stated his unwillingness to trade Garrett, even for two first-round draft picks. However, Garrett's public trade request may increase pressure on the organization.
The Browns finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 3-14 record, hampered by quarterback Deshaun Watson's struggles and season-ending Achilles injury. Watson underwent a second Achilles surgery in January, raising questions about his availability for the 2025 season. With the second overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Browns are considering Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, the top defensive end prospect.
