Milk Chocolate in Dark Chocolate Packaging Triggers Recall

A nationwide recall has been issued for Glicks Dark Chocolate Conettos due to the potential presence of undeclared milk chocolate within some packages. This poses a serious risk to individuals with milk allergies or sensitivities.

Kayco, the New Jersey-based kosher food company behind the product, announced the recall after their quality control team discovered the mix-up. A limited number of bags labeled as dark chocolate actually contained milk chocolate Conettos, which contain milk allergens not listed on the dark chocolate packaging.

The affected products were primarily distributed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut between October 13, 2024, and February 14, 2025, with some also sold via Amazon. The recall specifically targets packages bearing the lot code 02092024.

Consumers are urged to check their purchases and return any affected products for a refund or credit. Those experiencing allergic reactions after consuming the product should seek immediate medical attention.

This recall has implications beyond allergies. The unintentional inclusion of milk chocolate in a product labeled "pareve" (neither meat nor dairy) presents a problem for those observing kosher dietary laws, which strictly prohibit the mixing of milk and meat. Glicks Milk Chocolate Conettos are certified "kosher dairy," while the dark chocolate version is "pareve." This mislabeling could lead to inadvertent violations of these dietary restrictions.

Kayco has notified retailers and instructed them to remove the affected products from shelves. The FDA has also posted the recall on their website. As of the recall announcement, no adverse reactions had been reported.
