Man Accused of Murder, Carjackings, and Animal Cruelty in Maryland Crime Spree

A 22-year-old Washington D.C. man, Daeyon Ross, faces serious charges including murder, armed carjacking, assault, animal cruelty, and multiple firearms offenses following a violent crime spree in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The spree began around 12:10 p.m. with the carjacking of a Honda CRV at gunpoint. After crashing the stolen vehicle, Ross allegedly attempted to carjack an Acura ILX at a fast-food restaurant drive-thru, fatally shooting the driver, 56-year-old Kurt Modeste of La Plata. Ross then reportedly carjacked a Toyota Scion, also in the drive-thru, which contained three dogs. Two of the dogs were tragically shot and killed. The spree continued into Washington D.C., where Ross abandoned the Scion, carjacked a GMC Terrain, and engaged in a shootout with police before being apprehended. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. Ross is currently in custody in Washington D.C. awaiting extradition to Maryland. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Prince George's County Police Department or Crime Solvers.
