The pair, who met in 2014 as coaches on "The Voice," were both going through highly publicized divorces – Stefani from Gavin Rossdale and Shelton from Miranda Lambert – in 2015. Stefani admitted to initially pulling back, overwhelmed by the upheaval in her life. However, Shelton, convinced of their connection, persisted, choosing a unique approach to win her over: songwriting.

He began crafting a song for Stefani, a gesture she recognized as significant, knowing his usual reticence towards songwriting. This song eventually evolved into their 2016 duet, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart." Stefani described the collaborative process, revealing they wrote verses to each other via text message, never even being in the same room. This unconventional songwriting exchange marked the beginning of their romantic journey.

She described him as a "miracle" in her life, enabling her to rebuild her dream of love and family.
