Goldberg Downplays Comparisons Between Trump's Classified Documents Case and Past Incidents

During a recent episode of "The View," Whoopi Goldberg addressed the ongoing discussion surrounding former President Donald Trump's indictment for mishandling classified documents. She expressed her reluctance to hear further comparisons to Hillary Clinton's email controversy and President Biden's classified documents situation.

Goldberg emphasized that, unlike Trump, individuals previously found with classified documents had cooperated with investigations. She specifically mentioned Clinton, stating that no one involved in past incidents had resisted inquiries. She mimicked those who bring up Clinton, saying with a mocking tone, "Well, Hillary!"

Goldberg also addressed the discovery of classified documents in President Biden's former office and Delaware home. She argued that Biden, as Vice President at the time, wasn't ultimately responsible for the documents, suggesting that former President Obama would have held that authority. However, it's worth noting that Vice Presidents do possess the legal power to classify and declassify documents under federal law.

In contrast to these prior instances, Goldberg highlighted Trump's alleged refusal to cooperate, exclaiming, "The man broke the law. He's on tape!"

Following Trump's indictment, Hillary Clinton used the opportunity to promote merchandise bearing the slogan "BUT HER EMAILS" on her organization's online store. This references past scrutiny she faced regarding her use of a private email server while Secretary of State, a matter which she has consistently denied involved classified information. However, a 2018 Inspector General report identified 193 classified emails on her server. While the FBI investigated Clinton in 2015, then-Director James Comey ultimately decided against recommending prosecution.
