Musician Gavin Rossdale recently opened up about his approach to raising his three sons with ex-wife Gwen Stefani, highlighting their distinct parenting styles and the benefits it offers their children. Rossdale, 57, and Stefani, 53, share Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9. In a conversation on the "Not So Hollywood" podcast, Rossdale explained that rather than strict co-parenting, they individually parent, offering their sons diverse perspectives.
He acknowledged their differing viewpoints, believing this allows their children to form their own opinions and choose which aspects of each parent's approach they wish to embrace. Rossdale emphasized the importance of providing a broad outlook, especially given their contrasting views. He described their arrangement as each parent having dedicated time with their sons, applying their individual parenting philosophies.
Rossdale believes his children are now old enough to begin discerning which elements from each household resonate with them as they mature. Regardless of their chosen path, he stressed that his primary concern is ensuring his sons feel loved and supported in both homes. Beyond his three sons with Stefani, Rossdale is also father to 34-year-old daughter Daisy Lowe from a previous relationship.
Rossdale expressed the joy of witnessing his sons' development, describing it as a continuous journey of growth and new experiences. He highlighted the importance of maintaining close communication and spending quality time with them. Rossdale also shared insights into his sons' burgeoning talents. Kingston, at 17, is already displaying remarkable skills as a songwriter, singer, and musician, surpassing Rossdale's own abilities at that age. Zuma has shown an interest in drums, while Apollo excels as a star quarterback on his school's football team, a commitment Rossdale prioritizes by scheduling his tour around Apollo’s games.
Rossdale also touched upon his personal life, revealing a recent, difficult breakup that has influenced his music. He briefly mentioned his preference for meeting romantic partners organically rather than through dating apps, although he acknowledged the challenges of doing so. He shared that he had just attended Zuma's eighth-grade graduation, a poignant event that highlighted the children’s growth and journey through school.
