The New England Patriots, who drafted Mallett in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft, also released a statement on Twitter, expressing their sorrow and offering condolences to Mallett's family, former teammates, and those mourning his loss. Mallett's sudden death sent shockwaves throughout the NFL. Former teammate and Houston Texans star J.J. Watt shared his grief on Twitter, expressing disbelief and offering prayers for Mallett's family. Mallett's football career began at the University of Michigan before he transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he became a standout player. In 2009 and 2010, he put up impressive numbers, throwing for a combined 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns. After his junior season, he entered the NFL Draft and was selected by the Patriots. His time in New England was brief, and he later played for the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens. While his NFL career spanned several teams, he ultimately started in only eight games over his five seasons in the league.
