Former Louisiana Congressman John Fleming has launched a campaign to unseat incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy. Fleming, a founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, criticizes Cassidy's vote to convict former President Trump following the January 6th Capitol riot. He emphasizes his alignment with Trump's policies and his commitment to "real, conservative solutions."
In response, a spokesperson for Cassidy highlighted the Senator's recent legislative efforts, including work on tax relief for disaster victims, maternal mortality reduction, and veterans' issues. The spokesperson indicated Cassidy's focus remains on his legislative duties for the time being.

Fleming served in the Trump administration and expressed pride in his association with the former president. He framed his Senate bid as an opportunity to continue championing "America First" principles.
While Trump previously endorsed Cassidy in 2020, his stance has shifted since Cassidy's vote to convict. Trump has since publicly criticized Cassidy on social media, calling him a "total flake" and a "disloyal lightweight."

Cassidy's current Senate term extends until 2027. This is not Fleming's first attempt at a Senate seat; he previously ran unsuccessfully in 2016.
