Dershowitz, Jarrett Criticize Left's Reaction to Supreme Court Decisions

Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz and Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett discussed the left's response to recent Supreme Court rulings on "Hannity." Dershowitz, a self-described liberal for six decades, expressed agreement with the Court's decisions on affirmative action, free speech, and legislative authority over significant financial matters. He criticized those attempting to undermine the Court's legitimacy, emphasizing the importance of respectful discourse even in disagreement.

Dershowitz highlighted his long-standing opposition to race-based affirmative action, his preference for free expression principles, and his belief that substantial financial decisions should be made by elected legislatures rather than unelected officials. He noted that many liberals and Democrats share these views, characterizing the extreme reactions as overblown. He urged continued engagement with the Court's decisions through respectful criticism while upholding the institution's historical significance.

The Court's decisions have intensified calls from Democrats for President Biden to expand the Supreme Court, with the Congressional Progressive Caucus renewing efforts to implement term limits and appoint additional justices to counter the current conservative majority. Democrats have also questioned the Court's legitimacy, a sentiment echoed by Biden himself following the affirmative action ruling. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, advocated for legislation to expand the Court and establish ethical and disclosure standards. Biden's criticism of the Court as "not a normal court" after the affirmative action decision drew criticism for potentially undermining the institution's credibility.
