Throughout President Biden's tenure, questions regarding his stamina and fitness for a second term have been circulating. A recent Wall Street Journal report, based on interviews with approximately 50 individuals, including current and former White House staff, revealed that concerns about the president's stamina were evident early in his administration. The report cites instances where meetings were postponed due to the president having a "bad day." The White House responded to the report, emphasizing Biden's policy achievements as evidence of his capabilities and leadership. They also highlighted the president's frequent communication with cabinet members.
Prominent figures in the media and Democratic leadership have consistently defended the president against these concerns. MSNBC host Joe Scarborough vehemently supported Biden, asserting that the president is currently at his intellectual peak. Vice President Kamala Harris has also firmly stood by Biden, expressing no regrets about defending his fitness for office and highlighting his experience and dedication. She emphasized his deep care for the American people, his intelligence, and his sound judgment.
Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre previously dismissed questions about Biden's fitness, laughing off inquiries on CNN and emphasizing the president's accomplishments. General Mark Milley, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also reassured the public about Biden's alertness and engagement in critical matters. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a close Biden ally, expressed confidence in the president's capabilities based on his interactions with him. Cabinet officials, including DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, have also voiced their support for Biden's leadership.
