Car Plunges from California Overpass onto Busy Freeway

A shocking incident unfolded on Presidents' Day in Sacramento, California, when a vehicle plummeted from an Interstate 5 overpass onto the bustling freeway below. The terrifying event was captured by a driver's dashcam, providing a chilling visual of the near-catastrophe.

Around 1 p.m., authorities rushed to the scene where they discovered the injured driver. The driver was promptly transported to a local hospital and reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Kyman Jeung, the driver who recorded the incident, shared his experience with KCRA-TV, admitting he was still shaken hours later. The footage from Jeung's dashcam shows his vehicle approaching the overpass just as the falling car and debris rain down onto the freeway. Jeung and other drivers had mere seconds to react.

"It felt like slow motion," Jeung recounted. "Seeing the car and tree branches falling, I had to quickly analyze the situation and find the safest path through the debris. There was no avoiding it; I had to drive through some of the fallen branches."

Following the accident, the Sacramento Police Department used X (formerly Twitter) to announce traffic closures on West El Camino Avenue between Gateway Oaks Drive and Azevedo Drive. The roadway was reopened once the scene was cleared. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the falling vehicle was the only individual transported to the hospital.
