Recently released audio reveals a strained conversation between convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh and his surviving son, Buster. The call, obtained by FitsNews, took place on May 16th while Buster was traveling from Daufuskie Island back to Hilton Head Island. Murdaugh, currently serving two life sentences at McCormick Correctional Institution for the murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, initiated the call. The brief exchange was marked by technical difficulties and awkward pauses.

Murdaugh seemed eager to connect with his defense attorney, Jim Griffin, through Buster, mentioning a meeting and asking Buster to relay a message. The poor connection made communication difficult. The conversation ended with Murdaugh expressing his love and pride for Buster, who reciprocated before quickly ending the call.

While this is the first documented direct call between the two since Murdaugh's conviction, it's possible other conversations occurred. This specific call’s audio was obtained via the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act. The timing of the call coincides with Buster's participation in filming for an upcoming FOX Nation documentary, "The Fall of the House of Murdaugh." The three-part series, which includes an exclusive interview with Buster conducted by Martha MacCallum, is set to premiere on September 12th. Buster has remained supportive of his father throughout the trial and subsequent conviction, testifying on his behalf and portraying him as devastated by the loss of his wife and son.

Murdaugh maintains his innocence and is currently appealing his conviction.
